Cross-cutting Working Groups and Task Forces
Recognizing that core topics such as safety, economics, and non-proliferation, along with the challenges to be addressed for the deployment of Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems, are shared across all six Gen IV Systems, GIF has established cross-cutting Methodology Working Groups (WG) and ad-hoc Task Forces (TF). These WGs and TFs report to the GIF Experts Groups (EG), solicit inputs, provide support to System Steering Committees, and receive backing from the GIF Technical Secretariat (TS).
Currently, GIF maintains five WGs and one TF.
About GIF WG & TF
GIF has pinpointed topics that require an initial technology-neutral examination to establish methodologies and criteria for evaluating the six systems.
Presently, the GIF's Working Groups are focused on the following areas: Risk and Safety, Proliferation Resistance and Physical Protection, Education and Training, Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, and Economic Modelling.
There is also an active Task Force delving into the Non-Electric Applications of Nuclear Heat.
Previous task forces have explored R&D Infrastructure and Safety Design Criteria.
A Task Force is formed as a temporary group to investigate a specific subject. It may either evolve into a more permanent Working Group or disband upon completion of its objectives.
Unlike Systems Arrangements and Memoranda of Understanding, all GIF members contribute to the Working Groups and Task Forces, and the outcomes of their efforts are publicly accessible.
