These webinars, organised by the GIF Education and Training Working Group are streamed live monthly. The recordings and slide decks are accessible after the webinar on this website. These webinars cover a very broad range of technical and policy related topics. At the end of 2023 they have been viewed by more than 15000 people (approximately half of the views during the live streams and the other half views being of the archives on the public GIF website). In total, the GIF webinars have reached Generation IV enthusiasts, scientists, and engineers in more than 80 countries.

About this Webinar
Please join us on April 28 at 8:30 am EDT (UTC-4) for an international panel discussion featuring the current and former Chairs of the Generation IV International Forum. From its inception 20 years ago as a breakthrough concept for sharing multinational research on GEN IV fission reactors until today, the Gen IV program, fueled by government and private sector investments, has made substantial progress in collaborative R&D. The Chairs will provide their perspectives on the progress Gen IV has made and the prospects for the deployment of Gen IV systems.

The Honorable Mr. William Magwood IV is the Director-General of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). He is a preeminent world leader in nuclear energy with extensive experience in both the regulatory and developmental aspects of nuclear energy. Prior to NEA he served as a USNRC Commissioner and before that was the Director of the civilian nuclear energy program in the US Department of Energy. It was he who had the vision for the Generation IV International Forum, which he launched, and was its first Chair (September 2003 to January 2005)
Dr. Yutaka Sagayama is the Task Force Leader for Fast Reactor Development in JAEA. He has had a renowned career in nuclear energy at JAEA and held major positions in JAEA such as Director General of the advanced nuclear system research & development directorate and Assistant to the JAEA president since 1999. He also has made major efforts for international cooperation in nuclear power. He was Chairman of Generation IV International Forum from 2010 to 2012.
Dr. John E. Kelly is Past President of the American Nuclear Society. He was the Chief Technology Officer for Nuclear Energy and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactor Technologies at the USDOE (2010-2017). Prior to DOE, he had a prominent 30+ year career in nuclear safety and advanced nuclear energy R&D at Sandia National Laboratories. He chaired the IAEA Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy for several years and was Chair of Generation IV International Forum from 2013 to 2015.
Dr Fiona Rayment OBE, FREng is the Chief Science and Technology Officer at the UK National Nuclear Laboratory. She has over twenty-five years nuclear industry experience working primarily within operations, technology, and strategic roles within the UK and internationally. She has served on numerous international advisory panels during her career. She is currently a Generation IV International Forum Policy Group member for the UK.
Dr. Patricia Paviet is the Group Leader of the Radiological Materials Group, at PNNL and National Technical Director of the DOE Molten Salt Reactor Campaign. Previously, she was the Director of the Office of Materials and Chemical Technologies at DOE, responsible for the R&D activities on the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle. She has 25+ years of innovative R&D and has worked in academia, industry, and national laboratories. She is currently chair of the Generation IV International Forum, Education and Training Working Group.
Ms. Diane Cameron is the Head of the Nuclear Technology Development and Economics Division in the Nuclear Energy Agency. She has had a distinguished career in the Canadian government and served as Director of the Nuclear Energy Division at Natural Resources Canada (2014 to 2021). As Director, she headed up the division responsible for leading and coordinating Canadian public policy on nuclear energy. She was one of Canada’s Generation IV International Forum Policy Group members.
Mr. Christophe BÉHAR, Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, Chevalier of the National Order of Merit, is the Director for Energy at FAYAT Group and past President of the French Nuclear Energy Society. Prior to joining FAYAT Group, he had a legendary career at CEA, in both the civilian and national security domains, and served as Director of Nuclear Energy Division (2009-2016). He was Vice-Chair of the Generation IV International Forum from 2010 to 2015 and Chair in early 2016.
Mr. François GAUCHÉ is Vice-President of CERCA and Supply Chain at Framatome. He was Director of Nuclear Energy Division at CEA (2016-2018) and was the Vice President of the French Nuclear Society (SFEN). He has a prolific 20+ year career in France’s nuclear energy enterprise coving the fields of nuclear safety, advanced reactors, nuclear fuel, and radioisotope production. He was Chair of the Generation IV International Forum from 2016 to 2018.
Dr. Hideki KAMIDE is the Deputy Director General for Fast Reactor and Advanced Reactor Research and Development at the JAEA and Fellow of Atomic Energy Society of Japan. He is widely recognized for his contributions to fast and advanced reactor R&D in Japan and has served in a variety of R&D positions his outstanding 30+ year career. He is the current Chair of the Generation IV International Forum (since 2019).
