Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine - Statement of the GIF Chair made at the 53rd GIF Policy Group Meeting

Date/Hours: May 2022
Location: Sydney, Australia

The Generation IV International Forum (GIF) has been a long-Standing framework for multilateral technical collaboration in research and development for the next generation of nuclear energy systems.

I want to acknowledge the deep concern of many GIF Members in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the human atrocities that have followed, not to mention the irresponsible actions impacting the safety and security of operating nuclear facilities in Ukraine. Such actions are antithetical to multilateral collaboration. Each of our members is developing its own national postures, policies and responses on matters involving Russia. And I ask our collective understanding and patience as we work though how to proceed in the work of GIF in a manner that respects the needs of its members.
