2015 GIF Annual Report
Annual Report of the Generation IV International Forum for 2015.
In 2015, the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) experienced significant developments, including leadership transitions, legal renewals, and expanded outreach. Dr. John E. Kelly, the outgoing GIF Chair, highlighted key achievements and changes in the annual report. Notably, the year marked the tenth anniversary of the Framework Agreement, prompting the development of an extension signed by most active GIF members. Leadership changes included the appointment of new Vice-Chairs and the transition of roles within the NEA, which acts as GIF's Technical Secretariat.
GIF continued its collaborative efforts, with a notable milestone of receiving the 1,000th deliverable under GIF collaboration. The third GIF Symposium, held in conjunction with ICONE23 in Japan, provided updates on Generation IV systems and featured panels on fast spectrum testing and nuclear energy policies.
GIF maintained its partnership with the IAEA, focusing on evaluation methodologies and safety workshops. The Safety Design Criteria (SDC) Task Force advanced its work on SFR design guidelines, while the Sustainability Task Force completed its phase 1 assignment. The Education and Training Task Force focused on webinars and international school collaborations.
Research and development progressed across the six GIF advanced reactor systems, with renewed activity in the gas fast reactor under new leadership. A new member from Korea joined the Lead Fast Reactor System Steering Committee. As Dr. François Gauché prepares to take over as the new GIF Chair, Dr. Kelly expressed confidence in continued support and progress under the new leadership.
